Villains you love

Do you have villains in literature/movies/TV shows whom you love?

You know the ones I’m talking about – those characters who but for a twist of fate would be the heroes of a story.

I’m writing my uber-villain right now and I’m thinking of writing a short-story from his point-of-view just to make sure I capture the depth of his descent.

Please share your favourite villains below, I need ideas my friends, and I’d like to pull characteristics from the BEST of the BEST.

This is by the way my One Fictitious Moment video on how to write a great villain – enjoy!

  1. Well, I just answered this on Facebook, so you have those (Voldemort, Satan, Sakamoto, Lelouch). I guess I should mention some of the others I’ve enjoyed, and that made my Top Villains List this year: Hannibal Lecter, Peter Pan, the Nogitsune, Jennifer Blake, William Lewis, the Weeping Angels, and the Daleks. Hope that’s helpful.

  2. Russell Crowe’s character, Ben Wade, in 3:10 to Yuma. His sense of loyalty is unpredictable. He has his own version of right and wrong, but you can never quite pin it down. He’s twisted, but likeable. Watch it and then watch it again. There are layers to this character you may miss on the first pass.
